PICTOrial VIBES

Atmospheres translated into pictures ..
That is what the exhibition presented by the Picto Benelux group is about (vibe: a characteristic atmosphere felt to be emanating from places or objects, as communicated to others ).

We all know places or objects that we feel as especially moving. We have seen the effect they may have on others. These places and objects are the universe and roots of each and everyone, making of each of us what we are.
We want to tell you something about these places, environments and objects – and in doing so, reveal a bit of ourselves. For when picturing what appeals to us, it's a bit of ourselves we photograph... “In any action, the primary intention of the doer is to reveal his own image”, said Dante.
The Picto Benelux artists present themselves with their favorite mode of expression: the old photographic processes where the artist's skill and the materials chosen are essential elements of an activity that is as much a craft as an art.
But technique is not for them what matters most: a picture with the sole purpose of demonstrating the virtuosity of its author would not make any sense...
These photographers consider themselves as “emotion transmitters” rather than “image creators.”
